Designer Spotlight | Modern Urban Woods

This month’s Designer Spotlight features Chicago based Modern Urban Woods. Founded in 2012 by brothers Adam and Devin Long, Modern Urban Woods fills a very unique void in the realm of sustainable design. They provide not only reclaimed wood from barns located in the Midwest, but also each barn’s history, thus providing their clients with a connection to the wood itself. They also encourage clients to visit their warehouse to select their own material. This approach sparks creativity and ensures that their clients always get exactly the reclaimed wood they had envisioned. Modern Urban Woods’ projects range from retail to custom furniture to residential, illustrated in the projects pictured here. The top photo shows the lower level of a home in Naperville, IL. The client’s goal was a Modern Rustic space, which Modern Urban Woods helped them achieve through an accent wall and columns clad in gray barn siding. Combining the reclaimed wood with clean white furniture and a black painted ceiling completed the room. The lower photo shows the Trophy Room Office located within a home in St. Charles, IL. The homeowner was looking for a room that reflected his love of the great outdoors. Modern Urban Woods supplied a hand-hewn beam for the fireplace mantle, as well as brown barn siding for the ceiling beams. Adam and Devin’s mission is to provide that extra dimension to sustainable materials by involving their clients in every aspect of their business. They are truly succeeding, one barn at a time.
