Ravenswood Single Family Home Renovation

Chicago, IL

The owners of this single family home were looking to transform the exterior and open up the first floor interior. At the facade, the siding was removed and white painted brick installed, as well as a new linear bay window that allows in natural light at both levels. The existing front porch was also removed and replaced with a new black canopy. The existing siding at the sides and rear was replaced with white HardieBoard, creating a much more contemporary exterior. At the first floor interior, we used a system of concealed steel beams within the ceiling structure in order to remove the existing beams and columns and fully open the space. The front office became a light-filled dining room with coffered ceilings, which now connects to the kitchen through a butler's pantry. The kitchen moved to the center of the home and the family room to the rear of the home, now with ample light from full height windows. This dramatic renovation created a modern home, ideal for entertaining.
